Hier haben wir die wichtigste Metal Band Mexicos die1983 vom Gitarristen Raul Grenas gegründet wurde. Er war von 1977 bis 1983 in England in der Band RED. Der erste Sänger war ein Bruder der ISIS Sängerin Fabiola. 1984 aber kommt der erfahrene und charismatische Sänger Arturo Huizar zu ihnen der sich zum wichtigsten Rock Sänger Mexicos entwickeln wird. Er hatte Anfang der 80er die Band SLUMBER und sang sogar in Los Angeles in der Band OUR STRENGTH. Nun weht ein härterer Wind, sie erhalten als erste reine Metal Band einen Vertrag und veröffentlichen 1985 ihr Mini Album das ein Klassiker wird. Doch die Firma geht pleite aber sie werden von WEA übernommen und ihr 86er Album wird ein weiterer Knaller. Sie kommen gross raus und während sie zuerst noch im 70er Jahre Outfit auf die Bühne kamen werden ihre Auftritte immer exotischer und sie schminken sich auffällig. Auf dem Höhepunkt der Band zerstreiten sich die beiden Bandleader, Arturo steigt erstmal aus und veröffentlicht in den nächsten Jahren Soloalben. Neuer Sänger wird Juan Boleanos von POKER. Im selben schnellen Metal Stil und intellegenten Texten erscheint 1987 das namenlose neue Album. Böses Blut scheint es zwischen den Bands nicht gegeben zu haben, denn LUZBEL und HUIZAR treten sehr oft gemeinsam auf. Der Erfolg lässt aber nach und sie verlieren ihren Majorvertrag. Das nächste Album "Otra Vez" 1989 trägt auch nicht zur Besserung bei, geboten wird belangloser Metal mit noch belangloseen Texten. Das Album erscheint erst im Eigenverlag im witzigem Klappcover das sehr selten ist und dann bei "Denver" als Massenware. Die Band zerfällt und Grenas gründet ARGUS.
1992 tun sich Huizar und Grenas wieder zusammen und lassen LUZBEL wieder aufleben. Sie spielen viele Konzerte zusammen mit TRANSMETAL die sich im selben Jahr wieder mit ihrem Sänger vereinigt haben was beides von den Fans begeistert aufgenommen wird. Mit Huizar gibt es auch wieder hintergründige, spirituelle und religionskritische Texte. Er scheint immer besessener von der Person Jesus und des Erzengels Luzifer, die Cover der folgenden "Anthologia" Re - Editionen zeigen Huizar als Priester und Teufel in einer Kirche. Auf dem 1998er Album prangt er schliesslich höchstselbigst als Gekreuzigter auf dem Cover und die Texte gehen noch hintersinniger mit der Kirche ins Gericht. Die Musik ist aber nicht mehr nur traditioneller Metal, er verarbeitet auch andere Einflüsse. Nachdem Grenas aussteigt ist es auch nur noch sein eigenes Projekt. Er wird zwar immer noch als der beste Sänger anerkannt aber die Band hat bei weitem nicht mehr denselben Stellenwert. Sie tingeln jedes Wochenende durch Mexico und spielen sich den Arsch ab um zu überleben, während die neuen Death Metal Bands international Erfolg haben. Nachdem die WEA 1999 eine "Best of" der ersten Scheiben auf den Markt wirft kommt es im Jahre 2000 zu einer wahren Flut von Veröffentlichungen. Neben einem neuen regulären Album folgt eine Doppel Live CD, ein Soundtrack zum "Guerrero Callejo" Film, und ein sehr guter Tribute. Zur Tribute CD erschien auch ein offizielles Video, in dem man die ganzen jungen hoffnungsvollen Bands sieht, die ihren Göttern huldigen. Die 1997 erschienene CD "El Comienzo" veröffentlicht Aufnahmen aus der Anfangszeit von Raul Grenas mit seiner Band RED und vom ersten LUZBEL Line Up 1983 mit Sänger Jorge Cabrera. Die "La Rebelion De Los Desgraciados" ist auch gerade neu als CD aufgelegt worden. 2000 kam eine neue "Best of" Doppel CD "Antologia Perdida", die als Bonus ein paar HUIZAR Solo Tracks enthält. Im Jahre 2001 ging die Veröffentlichungsflut weiter, und es wurde eine 3 teilige "Schwarze Geschichte" der Band herausgebracht. Dies ist eine weitere "Best of" Serie, mit Bonus Stücken, und interaktiven Copmputer Editionen, wie Fotos und Video Clips! 2003 erschien dann noch eine seltsame Veröffentlichung, ein Tribute für Judas Priest! Die Band spielt 10 Songs von Priest nach, und schrieb dazu spanische Texte! Die Versionen unterscheiden sich nicht viel von den Originalen, nur dass es mit den Texten anders wirkt, und dass die Stimme nicht an die richtigen 2 "Metal gods" Sänger herankommt! Ausserdem erschien 2003 noch ein offizielles Video mit der Historie von LUZBEL!
Ich hatte mich schon gewundert, warum Arturo auf den letzten Releases den Bandnamen als LVZBEL schreibt, aber das muss er wohl so machen! Denn mittlerweile firmiert Ur Gitarrist Raul Grenas unter dem Namen LUZBEL, und hat um sich die bekannten Mitstreiter Juan Bolanos und Paco Rock versammelt! Da werden wohl bald CDs unter dem original Namen released werden, und die Verwirrung komplett machen!!

Here we have the most important Metal band in Mexican history. They were founded in 1983 by Raul Grenas. He was from 1978 till 1983 in England, and played in the band RED. The first singer was a brother of the ISIS singer Fabiola. In 1984 the charismatic and experienced singer Arturo Huizar joined the band, and he developed into the most important Metal singer in the scene. He had in the beginning of the 80s the band SLUMBER, and was later singing in the US in the Los Angeles based band INNER STRENGTH. They signed, as first pure Metal band, a contract, and recorded in 1985 their first album. The label "Comrock" soon went bankrupt, but the major company WEA took over and released the album. This record is a real high class Metal album. They soon delivered the next album, that was released in 1986 and contained again great Metal songs, and the band got well known. They toured all over the country, and also in L A and San Francisco. In the beginning they used 70s outfit, but now the live show became more exotic, and they used make-up. At the top of their fame the two bandleaders quarreled and split. Arturo continued with his own band, and Raul hired the singer Juan Boleanos from the band POKER. In the same fast Metal style, and with intelligent lyrics appeared the next, nameless album. It seems, that there was no bad relation between the two bands, as HUIZAR and LUZBEL played very often together. But the success slowed down, and LUZBEL lost the contract.
The next album "Otra vez ?" was no step forward, as it contained only average Metal with uninspired lyrics, and contains even a BEATLES song! The album was first released on a very small label in a funny gatefold cover (that is very rare today), before they got a deal with "Denver" who released it in a different Devil cover (and lost a lot of the sound quality compared to the first version!). This was the final blow, and the whole band split. Grenas started his new band ARGUS and released 2 albums. In 1992 finally Grenas and Huizar found together again, and LUZBEL was resurrected. The result at the new album 1993 was better music wise, compared to their other projects, but did not reach the class of the first albums. The lyrics became again very dark and cryptic, which is the trademark of Huizar. They played many times together with TRANSMETAL, who united in the same year with their old singer. This was very much welcomed by the fans. But in the next years the band went through a lot of problems, and Grenas left. Huizar continued as the last original member, and the other musicians changed several times, so the band became more his personal project. The lyrics became an even more important part, and he digged deeper and deeper into the history of Christianity, and became possessed by Maria, Jesus and the Arcangel Luzifer. In the re-editions "Anthologia" you can see him as a priest or as a devil in a church. At the album "Evangelio nocturno" he finally crucified himself! It needed 5 years for this album, and in the same year he released 2 CDs with the most important classic songs of LUZBEL. In 1999 WEA threw a "best of" onto the market, containing songs from the first 3 albums. In the year 2000 came a lot of new releases. There is a new studio album and a double live album, a soundtrack for the "Guerrero callejero" movie, and a very good tribute CD for them. There is an official video for the tribute too, where you can see almost all of the new hopeful bands in action, worshipping their idols. Arturo is still the most famous Metal vocalist in the country, but the band has not the status as it had in the mid 80s. He is playing every weekend somewhere to survive, and some of the new Death Metal bands have international success today. The CD "El Camienzo" from 1997 contains songs from Raul Grenas time with RED in England, and from the very first LUZBEL line up, before Arturo joined. In 2001 the "La Rebelion De Los Desgraciados" was released again. In 2000 came the double CD "Antologia Perdida", which is another "best of" album, with some HUIZAR solo tracks! There followed also a 3 part "Black History", which is just another "Best of", with interactive Computer editions like photos and video clips! In 2003 there came another strange release, a tribute to Judas Priest. The band plays 10 songs of them, with spanish lyrics. The versions are not too differnt, only the voice does not reach the level of the "Metal god" in the old times, but the spanisch lyrics make it sound interesting! In 2003 came also an official video history!
I was already wondering why Arturo wrote the band name in the last releases like LVZBEL!? But seems he was forced to do it this way, because now original guitarrist Raul Grenas firms under the name LUZBEL, and has gathered around him Juan Bolanos und Paco Rock! So there will be soon sure releases under the original name, and make the confusion complete!!

Aqui tenemos a la banda más importante de la historia del Metal en México. LUZBEL fue fundado en 1983 por Raul Greñas. El estuvo desde 1978 hasta 1983 en Inglaterra, y ahí toco en el grupo RED. El primer cantante de LUZBEL fue el hermano de la cantante Faviola del grupo ISIS. En 1984 el carismático y experimentado cantante Arturo Huizar se une a la banda, y se convierte en el más importante cantante del Metal en la escena. El había tenido en los comienzos de los '80s la banda SLUMBER, y mas tarde canto en una banda estadounidense con base en Los Angeles, Cal. INNER STRENGTH. LUZBEL firma, como la primera banda de Metal puro, un contrato con "Comrock" y graban en 1985 su primer album. La compañía "Comrock" pronto se fue a la banca rota, pero la importante compañía disquera WEA toma el control y lanza al mercado el disco. Esta grabación es realmente Metal de alta clase. Pronto ellos entregan el siguiente album que fue editado en 1986 y que contiene nuevamente grandiosas canciones de Metal, y el grupo se da a conocer muy bien. Ellos se presentan por todo el país, y tambien en Los Angeles y San Francisco. En el comienzo usaban vestimentas de los 70s, pero despues sus presentaciones se volvieron mas exóticas y comienzan a usar maquillaje. En la cumbre de la fama los dos líderes de la banda discuten y se separan. Arturo continua con su propia banda, y Raúl contrata al cantante Juan Bolaños de la banda POKER. En el mismo estilo de Metal rápido y con letras inteligentes aparece el siguiente disco sin nombre.
Al parecer no habia mala relación entre las dos bandas, ya que HUIZAR y LUZBEL tocaban juntos muy a menudo. Pero el triunfo comienza a decaer y LUZBEL pierde el contrato de discos. El siguiente disco "Otra Vez?" no fue un paso adelante, debido a que contiene solamente Metal común con letras sin inspiración, y hasta contiene una canción de los BEATLES! Este disco fue primeramente lanzado por una pequeña compañía con una divertida portada doble (lo cual es muy raro hoy en día), antes que consiguieran un acuerdo con "Denver" quienes editaron el disco con una portada diferente, con un diablo tocando guitarra (y que perdiera mucha calidad de sonido comparado a la primera versión!). Esto fue el soplo final, y la banda entera se separa. Greñas formo su propia banda ARGUS y grabo 2 discos. En 1992 Greñas y Huizar finalmente se vuelven a juntar y LUZBEL es resucitado. El resultado para el disco de 1993 fue musicalmente hablando mejor, comparado a sus otros proyectos solistas, pero no alcanzó la clase de los primeros discos. Las letras nuevamente fueron muy crípticas y obscuras, lo cual es la marca ya conocida de Huizar. Ellos tocaron muchas veces con TRANSMETAL, quienes se habían vuelto a reunir en el mismo año con el viejo vocalista. Esto fue muy bien recibido por los fans. Pero en los siguientes años la banda estuvo atravezando por demasiados problemas, y Greñas abandona el grupo.
Huizar continua con la banda como el último miembro original, y los otros músicos fueron cambiando varias veces, asi es que la banda se convirtió mas como proyecto personal. Las letras se convirtieron en una parte aún mas importante, y Huizar escarbo mas y mas profundo dentro de la historia cristiana, y fue posesionado por María, Jesús y el Arcangel Lucifer. En las ediciones "Antología" lo puedes ver como sacerdote ó como demonio en la iglesia. Para el disco "Evangelio Nocturno" finalmente se crucifica! Se necesitó 5 años para la grabación de este disco, y en el mismo año edita 2 CDs con las canciones clasicas mas importantes de LUZBEL. En el año 1999 WEA lanzó un "Lo mejor de" al mercado, conteniendo canciones de los primeros 3 discos. En el año 2000 vinieron muchas nuevas grabaciones de LUZBEL. Hay un nuevo disco de estudio y un doble disco en vivo, un soundtrack de la película "Guerrero Callejero", y un buen CD de tributo para ellos. Hay un video oficial de tributo tambien, donde puedes ver a casi todas las bandas de la nueva esperanza metalica en acción, alabando a sus ídolos. Arturo es aún el vocalista mas famoso de Metal en el país, aunque la banda no tiene el mismo estatus que tenía a mediados de los 80s. LUZBEL toca casi cada fin de semana en algun lugar para sobrevivir, mientras algunas bandas de Death Metal tienen éxito internacional hoy en día. El CD "El Comienzo" de 1997 contiene canciones de el periodo en que Raúl Greñas estuviera con RED en Inglaterra, y de la primera alineación de LUZBEL, antes de que Arturo se uniera al grupo. En el 2001 el CD "La Rebelión De Los Desgraciados" fue re-editado nuevamente. La edicion de "Historia Negra" es nuevamente una edicion (en 3 partes) de "grandes exitos", con themas recreaciones, y partes interactivos, como fotos y videos! En 2003 se lanzan un Tributo a Judas Priest con 10 themas y video. Los versiones no son muy differnte, solo la voz no es como del "Metal God" en su viejo tiempos. En 2003 se terminan tambien la primera historia en video!
En el ultimo tiempo Arturo use el nombre LVZBEL, y el gitarrista original Raul Grenas el nombre LUZBEL (con Juan Bolanos und Paco Rock)! So en el proximo tiempo seguro van a lanzar CDs con el nombre LUZBEL y la confusion va a ser total!
