Hier haben wir eine der Initiatoren, des finsteren dämonischen Geknüppel, für das Brasilien allgemein bekannt ist. Sie kommen aus Santos bei Sao Paulo. Um 1980 gründete der Gitarrist und BLACK SABBATH Fan Zhema mit zwei Freunden ASTAROTH. 1982 benennen sie sich in VOLCANO um. Ihr Outfit ist als einer der ersten extrem, voller Nägel, Nieten und Ketten. Schon 1983 bringen sie eine eigene 4 Track Single in portugiesisch heraus, und bieten darauf wilden rumpligen Metal. Noch 1983 schmeisst Zhema alle Leute raus und holt sich von der Band SATANIC Sänger Angel und auch Drummer und Gitarristen und er sattelt auf Bass um, ausserdem brüllen sie jetzt in englisch. Sie nehmen das "Devil on my roof" Demo auf, welches simplen aggressiven Metal mit gebrüllten Vocals enthält, wie er damals noch nicht sehr verbreitet war (dieses Demo ist 2005 als Bonus beim "Anthropophagy" CD Re release veröffentlicht worden).
1985 spielen sie auf dem grossen "Americana" Festival vor 1000 Leuten und davon erscheint ihre Live LP die einen total schlechten Sound hat. Hier spielen sie schon extremen Thrash, und die Texte sind nun voll satanisch. Auch auf der ersten Studio LP wird weiter den Satanischen Texten gefrönt, und ziemlich simples Geprügel geboten. Nach einem Wechsel 1986 spielt Zhema nun wieder Gitarre, und sie können vor 10000 Leuten für VENOM und EXCITER eröffnen. Auf ihren folgenden LPs knüppeln sie weiter wilden, einfachen Thrash, doch besonders an "Antropaphagy" kann der geneigte Fan schon Gefallen finden. 1991 legen sie die Band erstmal auf Eis! Aber 1996 spielen sie wieder zusammen (mit Sänger Angel, und Drummer Arthur von der alten Band ANGEL)! 1997 machen sie auch ein paar Live Gigs, diesmal aber mit original Drummer Laudier und Sänger Fernando (von CHEMICAL DISASTER). Sie nehmen auch 3 Songs auf, als Bonus Track für den CD re release des "Live" Albums von 1985. Dann schläft der Vulcano wieder für eine Weile, und es werden hier und da ein paar Gigs gespielt. Sie schreiben 2000 auch Songs für ein neues Album, die aber erst 2002 aufgenommen, und 2004 herausgebracht werden! Die neue CD nun ist wieder richtig schön rumpliger wilder 80er Thrash, als wäre die Zeit stehen geblieben! Die Stimme von Sänger Angel geht mehr in die Death Richtung, aber auch mehr im 80er Stil, und nicht dieses moderne Gegrunze! Dies ist ein guter Neuanfang, und wird die Band hoffentlich heute international bekannter machen! Ein schwedisches Label hat 2005 auch die "Anthropophagy" auf CD herausgebracht,zusammen mit dem "Devil on my roof" Demo von 1983! Mit diesen 6 Tracks Bonus gibt es echten Wert fürs Geld. Das Booklet ist auch voll mit alten Kult Fotos! Im Jahre 2006 folgte eine Split EP mit der schwedischen Cult Kapelle NIFELHEIM, die 1000 Singles waren in 2 Monaten susverkauft. Die 2 Tracks von VULCANO sind in sehr druckvollem traditionellem Thrash Stil.

Es ist wirklich unfassbar, wie die Band im Laufe der Jahre abgezockt wurde, und welche Schicksalsschläge sie einstecken mussten! Die Alben "Bloody Vengeance" und "Antropophagy" sollten vom italienischen Label "Metalworks" herausgebracht werden. Zhema schickt dafür die original Master Tapes nach Italien! Diese geben dann "Bloody Vengeance" mit einem billig Cover heraus. Doch Zhema hat nie einen Cent dafür gesehen, ....und auch die Master Bänder sind von den Abzockern einkassiert worden, ....und er hat hier in dieser Page zum ersten Mal das Cover "Artwork" davon gesehen (und sucht bis heute ein Exemplar der Platte für sich)!! Das "Ratrace" Album ist nur von einer englischen Firma released worden (nie in Brasilien)! Diese haben die Aufnahmen bezahlt, aber nie einen Penny für die Verkäufe überwiesen, ....und noch nicht mal ein Exemplar der LP/CD geschickt!!
Im Jahre 2001 starb der Gitarrist der Band Junior Soto an Herzschlag!! Er brachte im Jahre 1984 unter seinem Namen SOTO eine Single "Tribute a Gilles Villeneuve" heraus (zusammen mit Drummer Laudier)!
Zhema spielt, um Geld zu verdienen, auch noch in einer CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL Cover Band (zusammen mit Drummer Paulo von CENTURIAS), die sich TRAVELLING MAN nennt!
Die ersten LPs sind schon schwer zu finden, und für die Single werden bis 100$ gezahlt.

Here we have one of the founders, of the dark, demonic Thrash for which Brazil became famous in the 80s. Around 1980 the guitar player and BLACK SABBATH fan Zhema founded with two friends ASTAROTH. 1982 they changed the name into VOLCANO. The outfit of the band was one of the first extreme in the country, full of nail, spikes and chains. Already in 1983 they released their own 4 track 7" single, which contains wild and rough Metal. In 1984 Zhema kicked out all the other members and took from the band SATANIC singer Angel and also the drummer and guitar player. He himself changed to bass, and they shouted now in English. They record the "Devil on my roof" demo, with simple aggressive Metal with shouted vocals, which was not very popular at this time (this demo was released again in 2005 as bonus for the "Anthropophagy" CD re release).
In 1985 they played at the big "Americana" festival in front of 1000 people, and this show was released at their life LP, with a really bad sound. Here they play now extreme Thrash, and the lyrics are very satanic. The first studio LP contains the same kind of lyrics and delivers wild and quite bad thrashing. After a change in 1986 Zhema plays again guitar, and they support VENOM and EXCITER in front of 10000 people. At the following LPs they thrash still wild and simple but especially the "Antropaphagy" album could be liked by the interested fan. In 1991 VULCANO was put on ice. But in 1996 they played again together (with singer Angel, and drummer Arthur from the old band ANGEL)! In 1997 followed some live gigs, this time with original drummer Laudier and singer Fernando (from CHEMICAL DISASTER, he was 10 years member and recorded with them in 1993 the LP "Resurrection" and in 2000 an album on CD). They recorded also 3 songs, which were used as bonus tracks for the CD re release of the "Live" album from 1985. Then the Vulcano was sleeping again for a while, and they played a gig from time to time. In the year 2000 they wrote songs for an new album, which were only recorded in 2002, and finally released in 2004! The new CD now is again great wild and rumbling Thrash, like in the 80s! The voice of singer Angel is more in the Death direction, but also more 80s style, and not this modern awful grunts! This is a great new start for the band, which will bring them hopefully more international recognition! A swedish label did in 2005 a re release of the "Anthropophagy" on CD, with the "Devil on my roof" demo from 1983 as bonus! This is really value for money, and the booklet contains a lot of old cult pics! In the year 2006 followed a split EP with the swedish cult horde NIFELHEIM, and the 1000 singles were sold out in 2 monthes! The 2 tracks from VULCANO are in great and very powerfull traditional Thrash style.

It is really unbelievable how the band was ripped off, and which blows hit them over the years! The albums "Bloody Vengeance" and "Antropophagy" where planned to be licensed by the italian label "Metalworks". Zhema send the master tapes to Italy! They released then "Bloody Vengeance" with a very cheap cover. But Zhema has never seen a Cent for it, ....and also the master tapes were never send back and are lost now, ....and he saw here in this page for the first time the cover "artwork" (and still looks for a copy of this LP for himself)!! The "Ratrace" album was released only from an English company (and never in Brazil)! They payed for the recordings, but never a Penny for the sales, ....and never send one single copy of the LP/CD to the band!!
In the year 2001 died the guitar player of the band, Junior Soto through a heart stroke!! He released in 1984 under his name SOTO a 7" single "Tribute a Gilles Villeneuve" (together with drummer Laudier)!
Zhema today plays also in a CREEDENCE CLEARWATER RIVIVAL cover band to earn some money (together with Paulo from CENTURIAS) which is called TRAVELLING MAN!
The first LPs are hard to find now, and for the 7" people pay up to 100 Dollar.

Aqui nós temos os fundadores do Thrash sombrio e demoniaco pelo qual o Brasil ficou conhecido nos anos 80. Por volta de 1980 o guitarrista e fã do BLACK SABBATH, Zhema, fundou com 2 amigos o ASTAROTH. Em 1982 eles mudaram o nome para VULCANO. A roupa da banda foi uma das primeiras extremas do país, repleta de pregos e correntes. Já em 1983, eles lançaram seu próprio single de 7 polegadas, o qual continha um Metal selvagem e tosco. Em 1984, Zhema foi expulso da banda e do SATANIC trouxeram o cantor, Angel, o baterista e o guitarrista. Ele próprio trocou para o baixo e começaram a cantar em inglês. Eles gravaram a demo "Devil in my roof" com um simples Metal agressivo, vocais gritados, o qual não era um estilo dos mais populares naquela época ( esta demo foi relançada em 2005 como bônus para o CD "Anthropophagy"). Em 1985, tocaram no grande festival de Americana diante de 1000 pessoas e este show foi lançado como LP ao vivo com uma qualidade de som muito ruim. Aqui, agora, eles tocavam um Thrash extremo com letras satânicas. O primeiro LP de estúdio contém o mesmo tipo de letras e traz um Thrash selvagem e um tanto quanto simples. Depois, em 1986, Zhema volta às guitarras e eles abrem para o VENOM e o EXCITER diante de 10000 pessoas. Nos LPs seguintes, eles continuam com o Thrash selvagem e simple mas especialmente o álbum "Antrophagy" seria apreciado por fãs interessados.
Em 1991 a banda deu uma parada e somente em 1996 voltaram a tocar juntos novamente (com o vocalista Angel, o baterista Arthur da velha banda ANGEL). Em 1997, apresentaram-se ao vivo, desta vez com o baterista original Laudier e o vocalista Fernando (do CHEMICAL DESASTER, ele permaneceu como integrante por 10 anos e gravou com eles em 1993 o LP "Ressurrection" e em 2000 um álbum em CD). Eles gravaram também 3 músicas que foram usadas como bônus para o relançamento do àlbum "Live" de 1985. Então deram uma hibernada e somente em 2000 escreveram músicas para um novo álbum, gravado em 2002 e lançado em 2004. O novo CD "Tales from the black book" traz novamente auqele Thrash selvagem, como nos anos 80! A voz do vocalista Angel é mais direcionada ao Death, mas também no estilo oitentista e não com estes grunhidos modernos! Este é um grande recomeço para a banda, a qual trará, tomara, mais reconhecimento internacional! Uma gravadora sueca relançou o CD "Anthropophagy") em 2005 com a demo "Devil in my roof" de 1983 como bônus. Este álbum vale a grana investida e o encarte contém muitas fotos antigas.
O novo CD é um Thrash selvagem e barulhento, como nos anos 80! Os vocais de Angel é mais direcionado ao Death Metal, mas também calcado no estilo oitentista e não nestas porcarias modernosas! Este é um grande recomeço para a banda, o qual, esperamos, traga algum reconhecimento internacional!

É impressionante como a banda foi prejudicada e enganada ao longo dos anos! Os álbuns "Bloody Vengeance" e " Antropophagy" foram licenciados pela gravadora italiana "Metalworks". Zhema enviou as "master tapes" para a Itália, eles lançaram o Bloody Vengeance com uma capa meia boca, mas Zhema nunca recebeu um centavo pelo álbum e nem as "master tapes" retornaram a seu dono, estão perdidas agora,.... e ele viu pela primeira vez, nesta página, a capa (e ainda procura por uma cópia deste LP)!!! O álbum "Ratrace" foi lançado somente por uma companhia britânica (nem no Brasil foi lançado). Eles pagaram pelas gravações, mas nenhum penny pelas vendas e nunca enviaram sequer uma cópia do CD / LP para a banda!! No ano de 2001 o guitarrista Junior Soto morreu devido a problemas de coração. Ele lançou em 1984, sob o nome SOTO, um single 7" chamado "Tribute a Gilles Villeneuve" (junto com o baterista Laudier). Zhema toca hoje em dia numa banda cover do Creedence Clearwater Revival junto com o Paulo (Centurias) chamada TRAVELLING MAN. O primeiro LP é difícil de encontrar hoje em dia e pelo single 7" as pessoas chegam a pagar mais de 100 dólares.
